Two Former New York Rangers' Reunite With Biggest Eastern Conference Rival After Securing New Contracts

Two of New York Rangers former players reunite after they have both reportedly secured a new contract with the organizations biggest Eastern Conference Rivals.

According to NHL insider Frank Seravalli, former Rangers forward Tyler Motte and defenseman Ben Harpur have signed Professional Tryout contracts with the back-to-back Stanley Cup Champions, the Florida Panthers.

Tyler Motte Looks To Keep NHL Career Alive, Following Disappointing Season

Tyler Motte spent this past season with the Detroit Red Wings, where he managed to tally a total of nine points (4 G, 5 A), 72 hits and a minus-11 rating in 55 games.
Prior to this Motte had two stints with the Rangers after he was trade by the Vancouver Canucks for a 4th-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, his first tenure was during the 2021-22 season, and then the 2022-23 season after returning from the Ottawa Senators. where he posted five goals, 10 points, 57 hits, and a plus-1 rating in 33 games.
However, the Red Wings decided not to resign the 30-year old, which has lead him to a PTO contract with the Panthers, in hopes of securing a contract before the 2025-26 season starts.

Ben Harpur Looking To Secure Roster Spot In The NHL

On the other hand defenseman, Ben Harpur, spent the last two season with the New York Rangers American Hockey League affiliate team, the Hartford Wolf Pack. However, during the 2024-25 season Harpur only played 29 games and tallied one goal, and four assists.
The last time the 30-year old defenseman seen any action at the NHl level was with the New York Rangers during the 2022-23 season where he recorded one goal, six points, 57 blocks, 63 hits, and an even plus/minus rating.
