Two Former New York Rangers' careers hit an all-time low following latest reports
While free agency is ongoing, two former Rangers have had issues finding new work in the NHL. Free agency is awfully awkward this year, given the lack of frenzy and spectacle we're used to seeing, as former Rangers forward Jack Roslovic and goalie Alexandar Georgiev can't find a new home in the NHL.
Since free agency opened on July 1st, NHL teams have been on a spending spree. Clubs spent close to $1 billion on a massive number of contracts (205).
But two players who are former Rangers stars remain without a new contract offer: Alexandar Georgiev and Jack Roslovic.
While Georgiev was expected to rebound this season, and be a top UFA in 2025, his value would crater starting the year as the #1 goalie in Colorado, to finishing a dismal season in San Jose on a rebuilding club.
Georgiev, an NHL All-Star in 2024, combined to post a terrible 3.71 goals-against average and .875 save percentage in 49 games for those two teams this past season.
Georgiev would follow a great season with the Avalanche in 2022-23, his first year with 62 games played, and a 40-16-6 record, with a .919 save percentage, to a dismal 67 games played, 38-18-5, 3.10 GAA, and a .897 save percentage. This season, he ranked 65th of 66 goalies in the NHL with a -17.9 GSA per Money Puck.
Georgiev could prove he's still worth a look in the league long-term, but he may have to take a discounted contract on a one-year term to prove he's worth it. With teams needing goalie depth, the prospects of a new deal are scant, as the Edmonton Oilers and Chicago Blackhawks could use another goalie in the system.
Should they end up trading
Arvid Soderblom, could he find redemption in Chicago?
According to Elliotte Friedman, Roslovic could find a new home in Toronto, as he could fit into a middle-six role with the Maple Leafs.
The former 22-goal scorer in Carolina could fit into the team with $5 million in available cap space.
The Washington Capitals have also been noted as one team interested in he former Rangers forward.
Roslovic will have to work through his defensive kinks, as he's not been a great backchecker and was scratched throughout the playoffs by Rod Brind'Amour and the Hurricanes.
The next team that acquires him may have to put him in a sheltered role to make it work.
