New Original-Six rival has entered the Bowen Byram sweepstakes despite relations to the New York Rangers
New Reports have just surfaced that indicate that the New York Rangers will have more competition as they look to secure highly sought after defenseman Bowen Byram from the Buffalo Sabres.
Recent reports confirmed Buffalo Sabres defenseman Bowen Byram has decided to forego arbitration with his team and GM Kevyn Adams. The result? The RFA would be vulnerable to offer sheets from other organizations, and it looks as if he's testing the market.
While eleven other NHLers opted to go to arbitration with their clubs, Byram opted not to exercise his rights.
However, things have changes as the Sabres have elected salary arbitration with Byram making him no longer vulnerable to an offer sheet, but this situation could work out in favor of the Rangers if GM Chris Drury could whip together a nice package for the former Stanley Cup champion, via trade.
According to The Fourth Period, a trade might look like this:
If Byram is dealt, the Sabres prefer to move him in a talent-for-talent swap, as opposed to acquiring future assets, such as prospects and draft picks.
We should see this play out soon, as Byram could be acquired by a trade but no longer an offer sheet.
Along with that an Insider has just revealed that another original-six rival has entered the Bowen Byram sweepstakes, the Detroit Red Wings.
Things are really starting to get interesting surrounding Bowen Byram, and it will certainly be an exciting outcome.
