Three intriguing trade destinations have emerged for New York Rangers veteran forward
With a recent scratch by the New York Rangers, it's fueled speculation that Chris Kreider could be traded by his draft team. A team he's spent 13 years of his career with, could he be next on the block?
In the last three seasons, Kreider has been providing reliable production, scoring 30+ goals consecutively.
This season, the Rangers haven't found the production that has set him apart from his peers, as this year he's only provided 12 points( 11 G, 1 A) in 30 games.
After sending out feelers that he and
Jacob Trouba were on the block, soon Trouba would find himself in Anaheim. Could Kreider find himself in another team's uniform soon?
If GM Chris Drury does go through with trading the Rangers' lifer where could he end up next?
The Buffalo Sabres are nearby, so it'd be a quick transplant for the lifelong Rangers forward.
The Sabres' record has been one of decline, after last season were thought to be contenders. Now, with multiple players in decline, like
Tage Thompson, JJ Peterka, and
Jack Quinn, they could look elsewhere to find help.
It could be Kreider and the Rangers who could improve their power-play which is ranked 29th in the NHL. Kreider's presence in front of the net is a sweet spot for the veteran to score dirty goals.
Moving Kreider to Buffalo could prove to be difficult, if he has the team on his 15-team NTC, and his salary could be unpalatable for a team that only has over $10 Million in cap space, according to PuckPedia.
Another team, like the Sabres whose power-play has been dismal, as they rank 31st in the NHL!
With Kreider's third most in power-play goals over the last five years, this could be a match made in heaven, if GM Don Sweeney can make it work.
Given he was born in Boston, this could be an easy sell for both parties, as he's a nine-time 20-goal scorer. He'd be a fit for the Bruins culture easily.
The HC has turned their fortunes around, with a record of 8-2-3 in their last thirteen games this season. They're in the hunt for a Wild Card spot in the playoffs and adding Kreider would be a huge move for the budding team.
Kreider could fit under the team's salary cap easily, as they have $8.7 Million in current cap space.
The team also has three 2nd-round picks in 2026 to work with and could find a spot in the lineup for the consistent goal scorer.
