The New York Rangers have officially placed Adam Edstrom on the injured reserve today. It was announced by Mollie Walker that the team had done so today via the NHL website.
The New York Rangers will miss Adam Edstrom on the ice, as one of the Rempire Towers has officially been incapacitated.
Edstrom will be out long-term, from two-and-a-half months to three-and-a-half months.
Where
Jimmy Vesey will fill the gaps in the lineup while Edstrom is recovering from his lower-body injury.
This kind of injury is devastating to the Rangers who have benefited from his promotion to the NHL this season.
He's been a reliable forward on the bottom six for the Rangers and has played 51 games this season, scoring 9 points (5 G, 4 A) and has found a home with Matt Rempe on the fourth line.
This means he could be out for the rest of the season, should the Rangers fail to continue the push into a playoff spot this year.
However, he could make it back just in time for the Rangers in 3.5 months to return to the lineup when they make a push for the Eastern Conference Finals once more.
Either way, the towering forward suffered a lower-body injury which wasn't specified on Saturday's 6-3 loss to the Bruins.
«He's had a really good year for us, for his first year being regular here and being consistently in games,» Rangers coach Peter Laviolette said about Edstrom on Tuesday. «It's his size, it's his physicality, it's his speed. You take a piece like that out, you're going to miss it. But it's a great opportunity for anybody else who steps into the lineup. Last game it was Jimmy, so that's a good opportunity for him to jump back in.
He'd miss another game on Sunday's win against the Vegas Golden Knights. The Rangers will miss his speed, and size on the ice as Vesey will slot in on the left, where Edstrom could be absent for awhile.
