Former New York Rangers goaltender Alexandar Georgiev's career has hit an all-time low. The goaltender was placed on waivers by the Buffalo Sabres and has joined the Rochester Americans, for now. According to a report from Hockey News Hub, he has his sights set elsewhere.
From dealing with troubled teammates like Tony DeAngelo and playing 2nd-fiddle to
Igor Shesterkin, he's found himself traveling around the league trying to find a home.
The 29-year-old goaltender hasn't played in the AHL since his stint in 2018-19 with the Hartford Wolfpack. For him, it may be his last.
According to the Hockey News Hub, Georgiev may be looking to return back home to the KHL, where the HC Spartak owns his rights.
But the rumors are buzzing that several other clubs are interested in him:
Alexandar Georgiev, 300-Game NHL Player poised to return to the KHL?
Georgiev has played a total of 303 games in the NHL with a record of 15 shutouts, 2.98 GAA, 151-108-26, and a .903 save percentage.
The underlying statistics here aren't underwhelming, but they're not great either. He's been able to wing it as a backup in the NHL, but remains a depth option for the Sabres, who are one of the worst teams in the league at the moment.
It's no wonder that he is looking to return to the KHL in order to find a better spot in professional hockey, rather than being a third-stringer in the NHL.
