Report: New York Rangers looking to secure young superstar to massive contract extension
Massive reports are surfacing suggesting the New York Rangers are trying to secure Alexis Lafreniere long-term.
According to recent reports from Frank Seravalli of the Daily Faceoff, Lafrenière and the Rangers are in discussions about a possible 8-year, $64 million contract extension with a $8M AAV.
«With so much focus on Igor Shesterkin, #NYR have also been working on a deal with Alexis Lafreniere going back to summer.
Talks ongoing. Different options on table. One of them: 8 years x $8 mil range.» Seavalli also pointed several options that are currently on the table in terms of what Lafreniere's next contract could look like with the Rangers, with one guarantee that he will be making than $7 million per season.
It has also been reported that contract negotiations have been ongoing throughout the offseason, and that it's only a matter of time until the Rangers lock down the 2020 first overall pick.
Unfortunately according to Seravalli, negotiations have been pushed to the side for Lafreniere as the Rangers needing to figure out the Igor Shesterkin situation first, but it does look like a long-term deal will take place so the youngster will stay in New York.
