Peter Laviolette stuns fans as he explains reasoning behind playing Nicolas Aubé-Kubel over Brett Berard
New York Rangers newly acquired forward Nicolas Aube-Kubel officially made his Rangers debut on Tuesday night against the Los Angeles Kings.
Along with that, Peter Laviolette coached Aube-Kubel during his time with the Washington Capitals, so he's a player who Lavy is familiar with.
«He brings certain elements on a certain line,» Laviolette said «He's a straight-line player. He's physical. He can score a goal and he could shoot a puck. Heavy, strong, and good when he was with us in Washington for a little bit.»
During Aube-Kubel's season debut with the New York Rangers he managed to a have total of 10 shifts while recording 5:21 minutes of ice time during the Rangers' 3-1 loss to the LA Kings.
Definitely nothing to write home about, but nice to see Laviolette slotting in different guys from time to time, to see who can truly contribute to the team when it matters most.
The New York Rangers are set to face off against the Anaheim Ducks on Friday night, and as of now it remains unknown if the Rangers will assign Aubé-Kubel back to the AHL Hartford Wolf Pack.
