"The New York Rangers crest has remained largely unchanged since its inception in 1926 - «New York» across the top complements «Rangers» stretching diagonally from top left to bottom right in classic blue, red and white - reflecting both the tradition and nostalgia of a time-honored Original Six club. Blue has always been at the forefront of the Rangers' identity - the team has worn a blue uniform in every year of its existence, and the franchise has been nicknamed the "Blueshirts" from nearly its inception. The shade of blue that was incorporated into the Rangers' crest and uniform in 1926 was much lighter than what it has become over the course of 100 years.
