New York Rangers superstar is on his way to making history throughout the National Hockey League.
Next season, New York Rangers starting goalie Igor Shesterkin is set to become an unrestricted free agent, which is leading to many questions on what his next contract will look like.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman revealed that he believes Igor Shesterkin will indeed sign a monstrous contract that will make him the highest paid goalie in NHL history.
«I wouldn't be surprised if he's going to be the number one paid goalie in the NHL,» Friedman said.
As of right now, Carey Price still holds the record for being the highest paid goalie in NHL history as he's making $10.5 million per season, but with him technically being retired, Sergei Brobrbski trails just behind him at $10 million per year.
However, it doesn't seem like it will be that way for long as a recent post from Mollie Walker of The New York Post, believes that Shesterkin's camp is aiming for a contract near $12 million a year.
Just based off Shesterkin's playoff performance last season, and his performance during the playoffs, it's hard to imagine that the Rangers wouldn't give him what he's asking.
To add to this, Leon Draisaitl also just signed a recorded breaking contract worth $14 million per season, which completely changes the market for superstars.
Obviously goalies are valued differently than players, especially forwards. Shesterkin is the Rangers best chances of winning the franchises first Stanley Cup since 1994.
