The New York Rangers made a ruckus in the media when they named their 29th Captain in team history. JT Miller will take the team into the 2025-26 season as a leader with hopes of playoff success. Despite the controversy surrounding the choice made by Mike Sullivan and Chris Drury, the team will stick it out and support it.
The New York Rangers have named JT Miller the 29th Captain in team history.
His leadership comes at a much-needed time, when the team will reset their attitudes and expectations. The hope is for a better season in 2025-26, as the Rangers will hunt for a spot in the playoffs.
With Miller to lead the way, you'd think the media and pundits would be behind such a move, but there's been some controversy along the way.
In making sure the team had done their due diligence this year, they scoured the locker room for reactions regarding Miller's appointment to the Captaincy.
Not only are the veterans on board, but the younger prospects, too. Here's Brennan Othmann on the subject:
«I think it's great,» Othmann said of Miller being named captain. «J.T. is the kind of player I look up to, J.T. is the kind of player I see myself playing like in a few years. He's just heavy, physical, every team knows he's on the ice at all times, you gotta be aware when he's out there. He leads by example, and I think every single team in the NHL would want a guy like J.T. on his team.
«He talks to every single one of the players on the team, he's a leader, he plays the right way, he plays honest, and that's the way hockey players should be playing in my opinion. There were a lot of guys in that room who were deserving of the «C», but you can't go wrong with J.T., he's earned that, he's deserved that. Ever since I got called up, he's shown that he's a leader and that he could be a captain in the NHL.»
The supporting cast will be Adam Fox, Vinnie Trocheck, Mika Zibanejad, and Artemi Panarin as alternate captains this season.
