The New York Rangers fans will have the joy of seeing "Belligerent Bill" Will Borgen suit up for the next five seasons in the NHL. GM Chris Drury and the team have committed to a five-year contract with the defenseman who will grace Madison Square Garden with his physicality on the ice nightly.
The
New York Rangers have taken notice of Will Borgen's value to the team during the postseason. They'd ink him to a five-year deal, which in total pays him $20.5 million.
Acquired in a trade for forward
Kaapo Kakko, he'd find a way to make himself a name in New York.
He'd provide the kind of play that offers a foundation of physicality and defense on the blueline that was missing much of the regular season in 2024-25.
Belligerent Bills' Nice Payday: $4.1 Million AAV
After his stellar performance, Chris Drury would reward him with a contract that contained term and a significant payday.
The top-four defenseman now earns $4.1 million AAV as a Blueshirt and has the confidence of the GM behind him.
Borgen could find himself again in a top-four role, depending on how Mike Sullivan positions him in the lineup.
With the exits that have occurred in the regular and postseason, the retooling should leave spots open for Borgen to take advantage of.
He could help elevate
Braden Schneider's game all the while sheltering him, while he continues to develop on the right side of the ice.
Borgen is a solid top-four defenseman who took it upon himself to play responsibly and played an ATOI of 18:18 in 51 games with the Rangers this season.
We shouldn't expect much different this year under Mike Sullivan.
