New York Rangers announcer Joe Micheletti joined partner Sam Rosen in an unexpected retirement during the offseason. While fans of the Rangers were taken aback, we pondered what the real reason for parting ways with the MSG Network and the Rangers was: family.
The New York Rangers will be a different organization in 2025. With Peter Laviolette gone, there have been other major changes in the org chart.
Two of those are in the broadcoast booth, which was held by Sam Rosen and partner Joe Micheletti. Sam Rosen would retire, which we expected, after an announcement prior to the beginning of the year.
But for Micheletti, he decided to keep his plans hush-hush until the last moment, in order not to steal Rosen's spotlight.
Instead, his reasons were relatable and humble, like we'd expect.
Micheletti's True Reason: Family Matters
The real reason Micheletti stepped away from the Rangers' broadcast booth this season was to be with his family.
After experiencing multiple family emergencies, including the disablement and death of his brothers, he had a startling revelation.
That harsh perspective brought the idea of retirement to the forefront, with Joe deciding, "I don't want to be somebody who dies in the (television) booth."
He wanted to be home with his family, and not on the road all of the time, which, as a broadcaster, is a way of life.
The couple's fifth child solidified the deal, as the broadcaster who was part of a legendary team for the last 19 years decided to hang up the mic for good.
Now, it's time to pursue hometime, for good, and to continue to treasure moments with his family.
The memories on the ice will always remain, as someone who was a key part of the Rangers organization.
