New York Rangers legend makes franchise history 30 years ago today
The famous «We will win tonight» quote from former New York Rangers captain Mark Messier was 30 years ago today.
The New York Rangers faced off against the New Jersey Devils during the Eastern Conference Finals on May 25, 1994, where Mark Messier made the bold prediction just before game six.
The Devils managed to take an early 2-0 lead prior to Messier putting the Rangers on his back with an assist on Alex Kovalev's goal then late in the third period he got his hat trick that led the Rangers to the 4-2 victory to force a seventh and final game.
The Rangers then pulled of a game 7 victory, advancing themselves to the Stanley Cup Final where they would face off against the Vancouver Canucks, Messier and the Rangers battled hard throughout another 7 game series before they secured the Stanley Cup.
