The 2025 NHL Entry Draft has come to an end and the New York Rangers began in the second round 43rd overall and are thrilled to have drafted prospect Malcolm Spence.

Much has been made about the Rangers over the past several days as the team had decided to give up their 2025 first round draft pick to the Pittsburgh Penguins As a part of the compensation to acquire JT Miller back to the Big Apple.

Spence considered a steal of the draft by many pundits

Many NHL pundits and draft experts felt that Spence would have gone in the first round but managed to fall into the second round where the Rangers managed to draft him.
«Malcolm is an excellent winger, power play, PK (penalty kill), plays the game the right way,» Rangers director of player personnel John Lilley said. «He doesn't cheat the game. We've valued him for a few years now I think he was projected to go quite a bit higher, so when the opportunity presented itself, we were thrilled to get him in that spot, and we think he's got a lot of potential and a high character player.» - John Lilley

According to eliteprospects.com, they rate him as a physical forward in a two way forward as he stands at 6 foot 1 and 190 lbs and has great speed which allows him to be very effective in the offensive zone. He holds a great one timer shot and has great passing ability.
This past season he had been playing for the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League and through 65 games, he scored thirteen goals with 41 assists for 73 points well having 57 penalty minutes and was a + 10.
He will be heading to the NCAA and playing for the University of Michigan as part of his development and preparing himself to be ready to be a member of the Rangers organization in the near future.

Spence looking forward to working with Rangers

«I think kind of when you have expectations for yourself, and obviously there's expectations from the media and whatnot of where I was going to get picked, but for me, obviously I believe in myself, and just really I didn't get picked yesterday, I kind of changed my mindset right after and said, 'well, tomorrow's a new day, and you're in a situation that not a lot of people are in.' So for me, it was New York's first pick, and I have some family out there, and it worked out really well,» said Spence.

«I'm really excited that they took a chance on me and believed in me when a lot of the other people didn't. So I'm really excited to get to New York City and get to work.» - Malcom Spence
The Rangers continue to draft great prospects over the past several years and the organization hopes that Spence will continue to a great find for the team and the future.
