During a media scrum, head coach Peter Laviolette explained that half or less than half of the Rangers regulars will be playing in the preseason game against the Boston Bruins on Sunday.
The reason for this is that it is an evaluation. For the young talent that is trying to make the NHL and make a good impression with their coach.
«It's an evaluation process,» Laviolette said. «You want to go out there and play the game the right way. You want to show what our team can do. It's training camp, so it's an evaluation period. While we'll be missing some of the bigger names, this is a chance for players to go out and put on the New York Rangers jersey, represent our organization and show what they can do.»
Several players will be looking to make an impact including Will Cuyelle, Matt Rempe and Kappo Kakko.
Rempe has lived up to his promise that he has worked over the summer on numerous aspects of his game including fighting with former NHL heavyweight Georges Laraque, living with Jonathan quick and working with NHL Chris Kreider.
Kappo Kakko on the other hand has plenty to prove that he deserved his $2.4 million contract as he remains a slow start with the Rangers organization.
It will be a very interesting year for this team, and we will see if they can replicate what they did last year with high hopes of raising the Stanley Cup this year.
However, it was just announced by insider Mollie Walker on which players will not be heading to Boston tonight for the Rangers first preseason game:
