The New York Rangers worst nightmare has happened: defenseman Ryan Lindgren has filed for arbitration.
The Rangers and Ryan Lindgren were trying desperately to get a deal done, but the two parties couldn't make it happen, leading to this. Both sides will show up and plead their cases to an independent arbitrator.
The arbitration process begins on July 20th and runs through August 4th, but a deal can still be struck before then.
Lindgren is 26 years old and is an important piece of the defensive core, which is why New York wants to hang on so badly. He had 17 points in 76 games last season with a +22.
Lindgren is reportedly looking for a long-term contract, which the talks will start at $3.6 million a season, which is what the Rangers qualified him for.
