New York Rangers and Bruins reportedly combining for massive trade involving top prospect

Typically, the rumor mill is nothing to sneeze at when it comes to trade talks. Numerous trades fall through all of the time, including the first two where GM Chris Drury tried to reunite with J.T. Miller.

The reason? He wouldn't make good on a first-round pick, which he eventually relented on when he sent Vittorio Mancini, Filip Chytil, and a protected first-round pick again to Vancouver in return.

Now, the Bruins and Rangers are rumored to have a deal place that sends top prospect Brennan Othmann and Chris Kreider to Boston.

The deal would send Trent Frederic to New York in return, for the forward.

Which for all intents and purposes to us, seems like an overpay for the Rangers.

While Frederic is a gritty, physical forward who has a scoring touch for the Bruins, he's fallen off after his career year which saw him post 40 points( 18 G, 22 A) in 2023-2024.

"Fight Night" Freddy as they call him, offers as nice option for a third-line presence in the lineup.

He'd be perfect for a contending team that is set to make a deep-run in the playoffs. But is he worth one of your top prospects in Brennan Othmann?

Doubtful.

The Rangers would need Frederic and a prospect, or a draft-pick for it make sense considering the Rangers would be moving Kreider as well.

Frederic this season has only scored 15 points (7 G, 8 A) in 55 games with the Bruins.

He was drafted 29th overall, in the 1st round of the 2016 draft and has yet to play up to his draft selection.
