New Insight Has Unveiled Troubling News Regarding Alexis Lafrenière's Career With The New York Rangers

Alexis Lafrenière was selected with the first overall pick in the 2020 NHL Draft by the New York Rangers and was considered to be a can't-miss prospect, a generational talent if you will, and since, all eyes have been on him.

However, he has undoubtedly struggled to live up to those expectations.

As it wasn't until his 2023/24 NHL campaign that Lafrenière was seemingly blossoming into his own player, as he had a breakout season, where he recorded 28 goals, 29 assists, and 57 points in his 82 games, whilst averaging 17:16 minutes.

Following his breakout season, the 23-year old was rewarded with a seven-year, $52.15 contract extension by the New York Rangers.

Despite Lafrenière securing a long-term contract extension while appearing to be on an upward trajectory in terms of his development, he unfortunately regressed during the 2024/25 NHL season, as his stats and level of play took a significant dip.

That being said, Lafrenière's NHL career thus far has been filled with a ton of highs and lows, and recently, he has recently been involved in some trade rumors.

Due to Lafrenière's recent struggle, the 23-year old has been involved in rumors regarding a potential trade this offseason.

However, at the moment, he still remains in New York, and still has the potential to be an All-Star caliber player.

At this time, it is tough to say how Lafrenière's 2025/26 NHL season will go, fans are extremely hopeful he has a bounce-back season.
