According to Larry Brooks of the New York Post, the New York Rangers have engaged in trade talks surrounding K'Andre Miller and Alexis Lafrenière at the NHL Combine.
Rumors have been swirling around the Rangers organization over the past several weeks as the team has made it clear they would like to go in a different direction with these two players as possible trade bargaining chips.
Miller likely to be moved prior to July 1st
Miller's contract situation gives him arbitration rights as he is a restricted free agent going into the summer.
Many feel that the Rangers would be looking for another defenseman to replace Miller as he has had a poor season and could use a change of scenery.
Miller has led the team in even-strength ice time each of the past three seasons, but he struggled mightily on both ends last year -- setting career-worst marks with 97 giveaways and a 0 +/- rating. - John Flanigan
The Rangers have been linked to pending unrestricted free agent
Vladislav Gavrikov who was currently with the Los Angeles Kings and may be in for a major pay bump who would give the Rangers a defenseman who would be far better in his own end.
Lafrenière's name pops up again in trade talks
Several weeks ago, Alexis Lafrenière's name had popped up as a potential player who could be on the move this summer.
The former first overall pick had just signed a new seven-year deal worth $52 million, but the Rangers may not want to keep this contract as the team is looking to reorganize and make major changes.
After his breakout season in 2024, many felt that he would continue to grow as a player, but it was clear that he took a step back and regressed as he only had seventeen goals in 28 assists along with a - 13.
Several teams including the Montreal Canadiens have been rumored as potential suitors for Lafrenière as several teams are attempting to accelerate their rebuilding including the Anaheim Ducks, Chicago Blackhawks and the Canadiens.
Both players would certainly give the Rangers a decent return as they would be a fixture in helping their new teams be better.
The earliest likely date to see any trades happen with the Rangers will be on June 27 when the NHL Entry Draft is set to begin with free agency right behind on July 1st.
