Dylan Garand was fortunate to have the best of the best from Canada in front of him. During his 4-0 shutout against Slovenia, he only had to face 11 shots in total on Saturday, making his job easy work.
Columbus Blue Jackets Coach Dean Evason, who was behind the bench for the IIHF Championships, complimented his game.
«I'm very impressed,» Evason said about Garand. «We gave up a couple opportunities, some three on ones, and he made some tremendous saves. They had good opportunities and Garand played really well for sure.»
Garand has seen international competition before, in 2021 and 2022 with Team Canada. In 2022, he helped the team win the World Junior Championships with a solid 1.98 GAA.
He's already left his mark on the 2025 World Championships with a 4-0 victory. The win is priceless for Garand as well, due to the fact that this will be the only team he'll get to share the ice with idol Sidney Crosby.
«Honestly this might be the only chance I get to play with him. I had his poster in my room as a kid. It's surreal but it's great to see he's just a normal guy who's just exceptionally good at hockey.»
GM Chris Drury will get a better chance to see how Garand plays in competition against his peers in the IIHF World Championships, and he hasn't disappointed so far.
