New York Rangers newest head coach Mike Sullivan has just sparked some major concern among fans following his assessment on one forward's play during opening-night.
Considering how the entire team played during their home opener at Madison Square Garden against the Pittsburgh Penguins, it's hard to try any positives. However, here's what Sullivan had to say:
"I thought Mika played well. I thought he was on pucks. His skating, I thought, was evident. He had a couple of grade-A looks."
Added: "He's trying to hang onto pucks more in the offensive zone. That's an aspect of his game that we're trying to encourage him to do a little more of, because he's big and strong and he can control play by just protecting pucks more and hanging onto pucks underneath the hashmarks."
I mean Sullivan isn't wrong as Zibanejad did have an ok performance on Tuesday and hopefully he will continue to grow off that, but many fans have started to point out their concerns considering how bad the team looked.
New York Rangers Fans Already Doubting Mike Sullivan's Assessments
Following Sullivan's comments on
Mika Zibanejad, several fans took to social media and voiced their concerns, here's what just a few had to say:
"This is concerning. Both the eye test and advanced metrics would disagree w that. We've already reached the, don't trust your eyes we're better than we look segment of the season and it's only been 1 game! Sully realizing in real time this is a lottery quality roster."
"He played well? Man I didn't realize how low the bar is set now for him"
Again it was only one game so hopefully the New York Rangers can turn things around early, as they have a chance to do so tonight against the Buffalo Sabres.
