Head coach Mike Sullivan didn't hold back while giving an his honest take on the the New York Rangers underwhelming 3-0 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on opening-night.

On Tuesday night the New York Rangers and Pittsburgh Penguins faced off against each other for their first game on the 2025-26 season. Unfortunately, things didn't go as a planned for the Rangers as they even failed to get on the scoresheet.
Something that has left head coach Mike Sullivan to speak out on following the game, as he openly stated that the Rangers have a long way to go to be able to become the team they want to be.
#NYR head coach Mike Sullivan: «Well I think my first observation is we got a long way to go to become the team we want to become.»
He's certainly not wrong. However, despite Mike Sullivan's disappointment he continued to push that he and the team are not going to overreact to just losing one game:
"I'm not going to overreact to it, it's one game. We've got a lot of hockey to play."

Mike Sullivan talks about the Rangers resiliency and how they can move on from tonight's loss:
To finish off the interview, Sullivan gave an honest assessment on what he and the New York Rangers will need to do moving forward in order to have successful season.
Sullivan's assessment: "We've got a long way to go to become the team we want to become. I thought we had moments in the game where we were playing the game that we envision, that we can play more consistently, but it's not nearly consistently enough... I thought the first period, for whatever reason, we had hesitation in our game. Some of it, I think, we can iron out. But certainly we've got a ways to go."
Hopefully Mike Sullivan is right and the team can bounce back for their next game as the Rangers take on the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday night at 7:00PM.
