Former New York Rangers goaltender's career in the National Hockey League has just taken a very unexpected turn after he had secured a contract with the Buffalo Sabres this offseason.

According to several reports and the Buffalo Sabres head coach, former Rangers goaltender Alexandar Georgiev has been placed on waivers an the opening-night of the 2025-26 NHL season.
Earlier on Tuesday morning, reports surfaced that stated that the Sabres were planning on placing Georgiev on waivers as they have been targeted another goalie, Colton Ellis, for a while now.

Something the Sabres weren't joking about as they claimed Colton Ellis off waivers from the St. Louis Blues on October 6th.

Alexandar Georgiev's Career Reaches An All-Time Low After Signing New Contract

The 29-year old goaltender, started his career with the New York Rangers as he played a total of 129 games for the organization over five season from 2017-18 to 2021-22. We he managed to tally a 58-48-11 record, .908 save percentage, 2.94 goals-against average, and even eight shutouts.
Unfortunately, his career in the NHL has since started to take a rough turn as just last season he posted a posted a 15-26-4 record, .875 save percentage, and a 3.71 goals-against average in 49 games split between the Colorado Avalanche and San Jose Sharks.
After playing 31-games for the Sharks, the organization decided not to resign the goaltender, which left his NHL career in jeopardy until just last month when he signed a one-year, $825,000 contract with the Buffalo Sabres. But now, it appears his days of starting in the NHL are over as reports confirm the Sabres have placed on waivers.

If Georgiev clears waivers, he will be assigned to the Sabres' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Rochester Americans.
