Former New York Rangers assistant coach speaks out on returning to Madison Square Garden for the first time since joining the Pittsburgh Penguins this offseason.

Later tonight the New York Rangers will be facing off against the Pittsburgh Penguins for their opening-night game of 2025-26 season, and ironically both current head coaches of each team will be facing off against their former teams.
As we all know Dan Muse was the Rangers former assistant coach and Mike Sullivan was the Penguins former head coach. However, over the offseason Mike Sullivan decided it was time to part ways with the Penguins leaving an opening spot for Dan Muse to fill.

Mike Sullivan And Dan Muse Facing Their Former Teams On Opening-Night

All thanks to the NHL and they way they scheduled the opening-night for the 2025-26 season, the Rangers and Penguins will be one of the three games for the season opener. Resulting in the two coaches to face their former teams during their debuts with their current teams.
Something Dan Muse has thought about heading into tonights matchup, here's what he had to say:
Former #NYR assistant turned Penguins head coach Dan Muse on his time in NY:

«I think every place you go you learn some new things. I'm very grateful to have had an opportunity to coach here those two years. Got to work with some amazing people. Got to work with some great players, some great relationships that I'm going to carry with me for a long, long time. Enjoyed the experience, and it's a little ironic that we're back here for the first game for us.»
Along with that Muse also gave a ton of credit to former New York Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette, as he has received a ton of advice from him over the summer.
Muse also said he spoke to ex-#NYR coach Peter Laviolette a lot throughout the summer.

«He's a great mentor to me. He's a great friendI'll continue to always lean on him whenever I can. Once he is back in the league, which I'm sure will happen, maybe he won't be giving me as much advice.»
Tonights game will certainly be one to watch as both teams will be looking to make a strong impact and start to their season.
