Defenseman Matthew Robertson got his call-up from the Hartford Wolfpack and made his NHL debut against the Florida Panthers. He was paired with Adam Fox on the top-pairing and gave Fox nothing but a glowing review.
Matthew Robertson made his NHL debut last night against the Florida Panthers, and found himself in an unusual spot.
On the Rangers' first-pair, with Adam Fox, who is one of the best defenseman in the league. Robertson was excited to be able to be placed with him, and complimented Fox on how he allowed him to settle in and play his game.
Robertson would end the night with a +2, 2 shots on goal, 24 shifts played, and 15:24 TOI played that night.
Robertson has only played one NHL game this season, and it wasn't a bad showing.
«He was really good. He's a big guy that moves well. Played really well down in Hartford so to get him up into some games is really good» Rangers coach Peter Laviolette stated postgame. «Would have been nice if he scored on that first shift. He made a heck of a shot. Bobrovsky just got a piece of the pad on it. But overall really good».
Now, we'll have to wait and see if Laviolette has any more uses for him near the end of the regular season.
Pairing him with Adam Fox gave him the kind of comfort needed to ease into a game against one of the NHL's best in the Panthers.
Could he be what the Rangers need in order to shuffle the deck and correct the problems on the blue line in the summer, or is this just a two-game test-run for the prospect?
Either way, he got to live out his dream last night.
