The New York Rangers season has hit a snag already, as last night they lost defenseman Ryan Lindgren.

Lindgren was taken out of the game with an upper-body injury which would keep him out of the lineup for a "few weeks".
Lindgren would be injured during a fight against the Islanders' Scott Mayfield, the details behind the injury wouldn't be revealed afterward.
Lindgren would engage in fisticuffs with Scott Mayfield, after center Filip Chytil with a huge open-ice hit, less than six minutes into the game. Despite this, the Rangers would pull off the win 6-4 win against the Isles.
But the injury is a bad sign for the New York Rangers who will have to call up a depth defenseman in place of the injury-prone, Ryan Lindgren.
«Nobody wants to lose players. It's never OK,» coach Peter Laviolette said Wednesday. «He's an important piece to our team, our core, our leadership group. The way he plays the game on the ice, he's an important part. Those pieces are hard to replace»

This will be a complicated scenario would mean, that while Lindgren is out Peter Laviolette will have to find a replacement on the top pair with Adam Fox.
This means a shuffling of the defensemen and a loss of a defenseman who was able to play on the PK and it's unlikely the replacement could play with the same grit as Lindgren.
«It's training camp right now, so everybody's an option,» Laviolette explained. «Like the regular season, when one guy goes down, even when it's not training camp, players in Hartford are doing what they need to do to be the guy that gets their name mentioned.»

The Rangers will have to dig deep into the lineup to find a suitable replacement, which could result in players like Connor Mackey getting a shot in the lineup. Mackey was placed on a pair with Fox last Wednesday and is a tough customer. The 6'3" 204-pounder has 75 PIMs in 40 minutes.
They could also utilize Victor Mancini, who is a rookie who turned heads during training camp against the Boston Bruins. The 6'3" 215 pound defenseman, scored 2 points( 1 G, 1 A) and played 23 minutes in the 3-2 win against the B's.
