The New York Rangers play-by-play announcer, Sam Rosen, is retiring at the end of the season. Before that happens, he will end his career calling his last game with a familiar face, John Davidson, his former Broadcast partner.
Before Sam Rosen answers the curtain call on his NHL broadcasting career, which he's held for the past forty years, he's bringing in a familiar face for the celebration.
That is longtime broadcast partner, John Davidson. Rosen and Davidson were partners for a twenty-year stretch from 1986 to the 2006 season.
The two were beloved by Rangers fans, who at one point called the Rangers' last Stanley Cup win in 1994.
They were the voices behind the Rangers' last Stanley Cup victory in 1994, which featured Rosen's iconic call, «This one will last a lifetime!»
Since then, John Davidson has found himself traveling around the NHL performing executive-level duties around the league after leaving the broadcast booth in 2006.
He'd join the St. Louis Blues as President in June 2006, following that career path would take him to Columbus fulfilling the same role from 2012 to May 2019.
He'd join the Rangers soon after in 2019 and would stick around till his eventual firing in 2021.
Davidson would return to the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2021, where he stuck around as an Alternate Governor and President of Hockey Operations since.
The dynamic duo of Rosen and Davidson will reunite one final time on April 9th, 2025, when the New York Rangers take on the Philadelphia Flyers in a Metropolitan Division showdown.
We expect the game to be nothing less than a barnburner for Rosen's exit from the broadcasting booth.
