After seeing the return for former 1st-round pick of the Chicago Blackhawks, Lukas Reichel, we're wondering if GM Chris Drury is hesitating. Moving a player like Brennan Othmann, who has failed to earn a spot in the New York Rangers lineup, could fetch a similar return.
With news of the Rangers being a road juggernaut and soft at home, with a 0-4-0 record dominating the wire, trades are secondary in discussions.
Despite that, there remain rumors surrounding forward Brennan Othmann, who could end up being a trade chip for the team, as he's failed to find a home in the Rangers' lineup.
The former 17th overall pick in 2020 has found a comparable trade return in Lukas Reichel, who has had some of the same fits and starts as the Rangers prospect. Though in reality, he has had a longer leash in Chicago.
The Blackhawks received a 4th-round pick in 2027 in return for the former 1st-round pick, and this should be eye-opening for Chris Drury.
The New York Rangers Are Receiving Interest For Forward Brennan Othmann
According to NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman:
"The Rangers have a lot on the wings, and it simply may be that he needs a fresh start elsewhere," writes Friedman. "We will see where things go, but there's definitely discussion about the next steps of his career."
A fresh start could be the best solution for both parties involved, but with the return so troublesome for the Rangers, they may have to find another way of increasing his value, which at the moment isn't so high.
A fourth-round pick would be ultimately useful in a trade, and every once in a while, you do get players like Noah Laba, but not often enough.
