During a recent episode of the Daily Faceoff Live, hockey insider frank Seravalli gave his take on who he feels will be the next head coach of the New York Rangers as many feel Peter Laviolette will be fired at the end of the season.
Seravalli feels that current Vancouver Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet would be at the top of his list as a potential replacement as he has shown that he can motivate young players and that they're willing to play for him.
Several other names mentioned about the Rangers head coaching position
Tocchet has been in a myriad of issues that have plagued the Canucks and with his connection and respect to JT Miller, he could certainly be an option for the Blueshirts.
Many pundits and fans across the league feel that someone will need to pay the price for the loss of this season, and it will likely lay at the feet of Peter Laviolette.
After a strong start to the season and then a disastrous two month stretch between November and December the Rangers were unable to right the ship and get there team back on track after being named the Presidents Trophy winner last year and going to the Eastern Conference Finals.
Rangers reporter Jonny Lazarus also was speaking during the podcast, and he feels there are other names that could be potential replacements including assistant coach Micheal Peca, former Florida Panthers head coach Joel Quenneville and even some options in the college route Including University of Denver head coach David Carle could also be an option.
Rangers will sift through their season before major player changes begin
Like any organization who unexpectedly missed the playoffs, will sift through their season to find the reasons why they fell short. It's safe to say that Peter Laviolette's name will come up repeatedly as one of the main culprits.
As for player changes, general manager Chris Drury will likely try to move contracts out and giving the team a new look next year without upsetting the balance of a complete rebuild.
One thing is for certain, Drury's job should remain safe and will be given another chance to push the team forward as the Rangers try to get back into the playoff picture next year with a new bench boss showing them how to win.
