GM Chris Drury sends a clear message to the New York Rangers locker room after recent announcement

The New York Rangers will not be drafting in the first round of the 2025 NHL Draft. Gone are the chances to select a player who could restock the team's prospect pipeline.

Instead, GM Chris Drury has sent a clear message after completing the trade with the Vancouver Canucks: we have high expectations of you next year.

The team finished 5th in the Metropolitan Division, which saw a fallout that resulted in the firing of Peter Laviolette.

While the precipitating trades near the end of the year signaled a trend, Filip Chytil, Ryan Lindgren, Jacob Trouba, Kaapo Kakko, Jimmy Vesey, and finally Chris Kreider were casualties of the underachievement.

It was a sign that the group wasn't good enough, and the portents should've been seen a mile away: a retool is on the horizon.

While some people believe that Chris Drury is at fault for the last three years for the team's inability to be successful in key moments of the season, he would remain GM after he was given a multi-year extension by the team.

The expectations are high for the New York Rangers as a whole, but it seems like it's an awfully one-sided relationship with the team.

After a 39-36-7 season, the expectations for the Rangers are higher than ever, and it's a shared failure between Drury and the team, in our opinion.
