Former New York Rangers general manager speaks out on the tampering going on during free agency.
Former GM of the New York Rangers, Neil Smith served as President and GM for the Rangers organization from 1989-2000, winning the Stanley Cup in 1994, their only championship in the past 81 years.
However, Smith believes the tampering during the free agency period this year is getting out of hand, as more and more teams engage in this illegal activity.
Smith even pointed out how teams are finding loopholes to avoid being accused of tampering:
"There's ways to get around the [free agent] tampering rules by talking to the agents through a third-party." #NHL
Neil Smith is a very well known figure throughout the NHL and is very well connected to inner hockey circles, as he used to be a former president, general manager, and scout in the NHL.
Smith also stated that there are complaints from those within the league and the NHL will soon take action to address this ongoing problem.
