As the 2025-26 season quickly approaches, it looks like former New York Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette will enter the next season without a coaching job.

Following two-seasons with the New York Rangers, Peter Laviolette was fired at the end of the 2024-25 season, as the team failed to make the playoffs after just winning the President's Trophy the season before.
Laviolette's tenures with the Rangers was filled with several high and lows, as his first season with the organization they won the President's Trophy and made it all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals, where they eliminated by the two-time Stanley Cup Champions, the Florida Panthers.

Why The New York Rangers Parted Ways With Peter Laviolette

However, this past season was filled with several issues that were hard to ignore. But after the New York Rangers missed the playoffs it was clear that things needed to change, something that ultimately costed Peter Laviolette his job.
At the end of the day this setback didn't stop Peter Laviolette from being motivated, as Elliotte Friedman stated on his '32 Thought Podcast' that he was eager to land another job as a head coach in the National Hockey League
«He wanted to show people that last year wasn't on him, and it was bigger than just coaching,» Friedman said. «He would have the desire to prove it and show it and Laviolette does have the reputation as the turnaround master. His teams in the first year do extremely well. But he'd definitely got that mentality and the word on that is out there.»

It remains unclear if Laviolette is willing to take on a position as an assistant coach or if he was even offered one. But as of now, it appears that Lavi will not returning to the NHL in any sort of coaching job.
Leaving the 60-year old coaching waiting until a job opens up mid-season or even next summer. Do you think Peter Laviolette will land a coaching job position in the NHL this upcoming season?
