New York Rangers Forward To Be Named Captain If Expectations Are Exceeded Early This Season
Thanks to a trade near the end of the 2024-25 season,JT Miller would again suit up for the team that drafted him, the New York Rangers. Miller was a part of a deal that sent Filip Chytil to Vancouver, while drama caused him to flee the city. For Miller, this season could be definitive, as the team continues its retool.
The
New York Rangers spent a slew of assets on JT Miller in order to bring him home to Madison Square Garden. In 2023-24, he had a career year, scoring 103 points (37-66).
By the next season, drama had caused a fissure in the locker room in Vancouver, resulting in Patrik Allvin trading what was his best forward (debatably).
While people thought
Miller would stay with the Canucks until the end of his career, that didn't turn out as expected.
Leave of Absence, Followed by Trade
Miller would take a leave of absence during part of the year before his trade, in order to regain control of his emotions. He'd deal with the drama in the locker room and the death of a relative in the same season.
On January 31st, he'd be traded to the Rangers and would have to adapt to Peter Laviolette's system quickly.
Miller would end the year with 70 points (22-48) in 71 games split between the Rangers and Canucks.
We could inevitably see Miller score 100 points in the NHL once again, but it depends on some variables, including linemates.
We should expect him to shoulder the same workload, playing 18:31 TOI per night under Mike Sullivan, in addition to a power-play assignment on the first unit.
