New York Rangers assistant coach has one clear goal during his second tenure with the organization, and that would be redemption. As Quinn left as an unpopular former head coach, with only one trip to the playoffs during his first three-year tenure.
While David Quinn didn't excel as a head coach, he has been given the chance to thrive in New York as Mike Sullivan's assistant.
For 2025-26 is a gift for Quinn, who, in all circumstances, we never expected a return to the organization, given his dismal 96-87-25 record in New York.
How Will David Quinn Get His Redemption With The New York Rangers?
Despite not being able to thrive in New York, Sullivan could help him find his groove as an assistant for the Blueshirts, coaching the team's power-play.
His special team's work with the Pittsburgh Penguin truly speaks for itself:
This past season, he helped the Pittsburgh Penguins' power play score on 25.8% of opportunities, good enough for sixth best in the NHL. The Pens' power-play also scored 57 goals, good for seventh in the league.
His shortcomings are well documented, but his power-play helped the Rangers thrive before, and will again.
His leadership could improve the team's standings, as this past season under Peter Laviolette, they had a 17.6 power-play percentage, good enough only for 28th in the entire NHL.
If he could help turn around struggling Rangers veterans, like Mika Zibanejad, who was successful under him before, scoring 74 points (30-44) in his first season in New York.
