Madison Square Garden is enthused for the return of Matt Rempe, of the New York Rangers, to the ice this season. Fresh off a 2-year, $1.95 million contract signed with Chris Drury, he'll step onto the MSG ice with a purpose.
For Matt Rempe, the 2025-26 season will be crucial, not only for his reputation but for his game. The forward had a tumultuous season last year.
As someone who professed to want to improve his play instead of just being a regular enforcer last season, he invoked the name of Adam Lowry. A solid two-way center in Winnipeg, a role model for him.
After a few mishaps, a boarding penalty, followed by a stint in Hartford, he'd returned to New York, lesson learned. He'd work on taking fewer penalties and would start contributing to the team with linemates Sam Carrick and Adam Edstrom.
He'd play a total of 42 games in the NHL last season with the Rangers and score 8 points (3-5). The power forward would play 18 games in the AHL with the Wolfpack and score 5 points (3-2).
Those points, and his reliable two-way style of play, helped earn him a new contract with the team.
For Rempe, not only will he have to defend home ice, but his position in the lineup against a slew of new arrivals on the team.
The battle for the bottom six will be really exciting, considering who will all be involved, including Juuso Parssinen, Conor Sheary, Sam Carrick, Gabe Perreault, Brett Berard, and other Rangers acquisitions.
