The New York Rangers forward Matt Rempe has tried to turn a new leaf in the NHL, but people feel that he's been unfairly targeted by the NHL referees. NHL Insider Ken Campbell doesn't think that's the case, in a controversial take.

The New York Rangers Matt Rempe is a polarizing figure in the NHL. He took the league by storm when he arrived by taking on nearly all the heavyweights in the league from Ryan Reaves to Kurtis MacDermid, and Nic Deslauriers.
He'd hold his own against the best but unfortunately hadn't developed his hockey game outside of his hitting and fighting abilities. This season he's tried to show us all that he's improved as a player.
He's arguably done so, holding a steady presence on the fourth line for the Rangers. However, two recent penalties were called against Rempe, which got an interference for Shore.
Here's another take that could be seen as bolstering Ken Campbell's viewpoint: he feels that he's not targeted.

Which is debatable.
Certainly, he's created history for himself in the league, decimating the Dallas Stars' Miro Heiskanen boarding him, which cost Rempe eight games in the NHL.
He's seemed to learn from his mistakes.

He's improved his play and his contribution to the Rangers squad since that major hit, and tried to stay out of the box.
However, we have to disagree with Ken Campbell here.
While Rempe may not be targeted by the officials often, it's just another case of confirmation bias by NHL reporters and insiders.
Instead of Toronto viewing Rempe as someone with a clean slate after paying his dues, and serving his time they instead look for any chance they can get to call cheap penalties on him.
The entire incident with Devin Shore was an accident, and you can't explain it more than that.
For now, Rempe like Bedard ( two ten-minute game misconducts consecutively is wild) continues to accumulate penalties from soft referees who refuse to be held to account by Gary Bettman.
