New York Rangers rivals have placed a former 4th overall pick on unconditional waivers.
The Philadelphia Flyers acquired Ryan Johansen roughly five months ago from the Colorado Avalanche, but it now appears that Johansen will become an unrestricted free agent.
Elliotte Friedman released that the Philadelphia Flyers placed Ryan Johansen on unconditional waivers for the purpose of terminating his contract. Johansen still had one-year remaining on this contract with a cap hit of $8 million AAV.
Later on, The Flyers took to social media media and announced that they've placed him on waivers due to a material breach' and left it at that:
The 32-years was traded to the Flyers back in March in a deal that sent Sean Walker to the Colorado Avalanche.
After the trade was finalized the Flyers wanted to place Johansen on waivers in hopes that he would clear waivers and move down to the AHL, but it was revealed that he sustained an injury and never played for the Flyers or their AHL affiliate team.
