The New York Rangers could see a rival lose top defenseman Dougie Hamilton. According to recent reports from NHL Insider Frank Seravalli, the team has taken calls from multiple NHL teams about the defenseman. The Bleacher Report has put him on their "Trade Block Big Board".
The New York Rangers could be poised to overtake their Hudson River Rivals if the Devils were to lose Dougie Hamilton.
Hamilton was signed to a generous $9 million AAV deal over seven years. With the Devils in a crunch, they're experiencing serious constraints with financial irregularities.
He could become a cap casualty as the team only has $6.1 million in space to work with.
Hamilton would be a great way of recapturing value through subtraction, while gaining assets in return. Though we suspect he may have to have a percentage of salary retained.
On July 6, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman said there was a low-percentage chance Hamilton would be moved, but he said his name was out there in the trade market. Two days later, Frank Seravalli told B/R he felt the Devils had explored the trade market for Hamilton.
RG.Org's James Murphy noted the Detroit Red Wings, Toronto Maple Leafs, Utah Mammoth, and Dallas Stars were among the clubs believed to be interested in Hamilton. However, the Devils weren't expected to move him anytime soon.

Dougie Hamilton Linked to Multiple NHL Teams
According to RG's James Murphy, the Devils have had multiple suitors for Hamilton, including the Dallas Stars, Utah Mammoth, Detroit Red Wings, and Toronto Maple Leafs calling in.
If the Devils lose Hamilton, they lose another piece of their competitive edge.
