The New York Rangers had a disappointing 2024-2025 season. But if you thought the disappointments had ended, you might be mistaken. The Rangers' draft lottery odds for the 2025 NHL Draft in Los Angeles? A whopping 3% chance of winning.

While Rangers fans have hope their luck might change during the offseason, they're sorely mistaken.
The team finished 5th in the Metropolitan Division and fired Head Coach Peter Laviolette. at the end of the season.
With June coming fast, Rangers fans will have new talent to look forward to as the team has eight draft picks in total in the 2025 draft per PuckPedia.
The team finished 39-36-7-and will be taking part in the draft lottery. But caveat emptor, Rangers fans, that luck isn't looking too good.
Though the Rangers only have a three percent chance to win the lottery and earn the No. 1 overall pick in the draft, they did have success in the 2019 and 2020 draft lotteries.

While there remains a chance they could win the lottery, the odds are in the San Jose Sharks' and Chicago Blackhawks' favor, who finished in the dumpster in their respective divisions this year.
Given the team finished 11th this year, they'll have a shot at the #1 pick, but winning it is an entirely different scenario.
The team did win the lottery in 2020 and utilized their 1st overall pick to select Alexis Lafreniere. In 2019, they selected Kaapo Kakko after moving up in the draft, from sixth to second overall.
Whoever wins the lottery this year wins the Matthew Schaefer sweepstakes. The teams with the best odds remain: the San Jose Sharks (18.5%), the Chicago Blackhawks (13.5%), and the Nashville Predators (11.5%).

Options

If they don't win it, they'll have to decide whether or not they'll keep their 2025 first-round pick or send it to the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Rangers traded this pick to the Vancouver Canucks on Jan. 31 when they acquired J.T. Miller. The Canucks then flipped it to the Penguins in a deal for defenseman Marcus Pettersson.

The team has options this season, as they could keep the pick and send them a 2026 1st-round unprotected pick.
Since the pick is top-13 protected, the Rangers can keep it this season and then send an unprotected 2026 first-round pick to the Penguins, or give this year's pick to Pittsburgh and retain their 2026 selection in the first round.

But before anything, they'll need to inform the Penguins within 48 hours of the NHL Draft on June 27th whether they'll send it to them or keep it.
