The ugly truth behind why the New York Rangers traded Chris Kreider was just leaked by Trusted Insider

The New York Rangers and General Manager Chris Drury have been very busy since the start of the offseason, as they made the decision to fire head coach Peter Laviolette and hire two-time Stanley Cup winner Mike Sullivan as his replacement. Along with trading the organizations longest-tenured player Chris Kreider.

In the recent trade the New York Rangers were able to move Chris Kreider and his full $6.5M AAV to the Anaheim Ducks, which is mainly the reason the Rangers only got Carey Terrence in return. However we now know the exact reason behind GM Chris Drury's priority behind the trade.

According to TSN's Darren Dreger, the move was made for the pure intention of clearing salary cap space for the summer as the Rangers are potentially looking to offer sheet one of the many available RFA's in the league.

It still remains unclear who the New York Rangers are targeting, but according to recent reports they are looking to get younger talent after moving Kreider and several other veterans over the past season. Along with many reports stating they are highly interested in J.J, Peterka, Marco Rossi and others.

Offer sheets have quickly become the talking point of this off-season, as many teams around the league reportedly targeting young players, and with the Rangers looking to rebuild their core after a very disappointing 2024-25 campaign, it makes sense that this is the direction Chris Drury wants to take.
