The impact of Henrik Lundqvist continues to reverberate in Madison Square Garden, as he played a vital role backstopping the New York Rangers for 15 years. Now, his legacy continues to March on, as the NHL named him to the NHL Quarter Century Team.
Henrik Lundqvist may not have won a Stanley Cup with the New York Rangers, but he remains one of the best Rangers goalies to lace 'em up.
During his 15-year career, he played a total of 887 games, all with the Rangers, and his stats are just as impressive: 459-310-96, 2.43 GAA, and a .918 save percentage.
He won the Vezina Trophy during the 2011-2012 season, when he posted a 1.97 GAA and a .929 save percentage.
After the announcement was made, Lundqvist made sure to thank the people who gave him the stage he's on now, the fans. Always humble, and never arrogant, King Hank.
«I am humbled to be a member a this team alongside so many great players,» Lundqvist said in a statement. «Throughout my career I was fortunate enough to have the support of so many people - family, friends, teammates, coaches, and of course Rangers fans.
«Their love and support helped me play my best and allowed our teams to have the success that we did. I cannot thank them enough for the impact they had, and I share this amazing honor with all of them.»
Henrik Lundqvist remains sixth amongst NHL goalies in wins and is the all-time leader for Swedish-born players.
Who'd have thought a former seventh-round pick in the 2000 NHL Draft would have such an impact?
