As the New York Rangers will officially miss the playoffs for the first time since 2004.

They will need to consider upgrading the lineup, as this team isn't the one to finish the job. There are 3 NHL players GM Chris Drury should target in July.
GM Chris Drury will have go back to the drawing board in order to retool the Rangers lineup into a team that could win a playoff series, or a championship in the NHL.
As it stands now a team who won the President's Trophy in 2023-2024 shouldn't go through the issues the Rangers went this year.
With a record of 39-36-7- and 5th in the Metropolitan Division, the team needs to dig itself out of the dumpster, and Drury should focus on pieces that can help the team long-term.
Since the departure of Ryan Lindgren, the Rangers need a new top-four defenseman. They can look to the Los Angeles Kings, who could provide a great left-shot defenseman in Vladislav Gavrikov.
Gavrikov can play shutdown defense and has some offensive upside since we've seen him at the start of his career in Columbus.
He could factor into being a good partner to Adam Fox on the left, and allow him to settle in and play his game, and occassionally offer some help on the rush.
Depending on the route the Rangers go with Chris Kreider, they'll need more ancillary wingers to contribute offensively. Hall has scored four more points than Kreider this season, doing well on a Blackhawks team that is in the hunt for a lottery pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.
While he may not be the same Hall who won the Hart Trophy before, he can still contribute at the age of 33 and be a middle-six option for a Rangers team that lacked scoring by committee.
We're going to Columbus for the next target.
Provorov will be a free agent in 2025 and will be another player who could bolster the Rangers' blue line. With the ongoing rebuild in Columbus it's doubtful they'll need to keep him, as prospects continue to trickle into the lineup.
He can eat plenty of minutes on the ice, and could be an option if they don't go after Gavrikov.
