Rangers special teams 3rd overall in first round playoffs
With the first round of the playoffs in the books, it appears that special teams were driving the winners of each matchup which includes the New York Rangers as they were third overall in power play percentage and penalty kill percentage.
The power play has been one of the Rangers specialties even before the playoffs began enduring round one, they were 38% on the power play an 88% on the penalty kill which are fantastic numbers for a team that wishes to push to the finals.
Those good numbers continued into round two as the Rangers scored two power play goals against the Carolina Hurricanes in game one while not letting the Hurricanes score one power play goal in five chances.
These special teams have become the focal point to these playoffs as many teams continue to dominate in shot blocking, penalty killing an overall great defensive play well scoring power play goals when the opportunities present themselves.
The Rangers are looking to capitalize on these numbers as they prepare to face off against the Hurricanes in Game 2. The Rangers do expect adjustments to be made from the Hurricanes however, the Rangers are lethal on the power play and if the Hurricanes give them an opportunity with the man advantage, it's likely the results will be for the Rangers.
Game 2 will be held on May 7th and game time will be at 7:00 PM eastern.
