Rangers insider confirms Igor Shesterkin will walk if demands aren't met
The New York Rangers need to make a crucial decision regarding Igor Shesterkin's future.
The 28-year old goaltender is set to become a free agent at the end of the 2024-25 season and will be able to start negotiating an extension on July 1st.
According to Rangers report, Mollie Walker of the New York Post, Shesterkin's camp will be aiming for a contact as high as $12 million a year, which would make him the highest paid goalie in NHL history.
Regardless if Shesterkin gets paid exactly $12 million or not, he will most likely receive a contract on the upwards side of $10 million. If they decide to give him what he wants they better hope he continues to progress well.
It's super risky to dish out over $10 million a year to a goaltender who is approaching the age of 30. However, with Shesterkin being such a crucial member of making the Rangers a Stanley Cup contender it's tough to not give him what he wants.
