The New York Rangers may be able to take advantage of a Buffalo Sabres team that is spiraling out of control. According to NHL Insider Frank Seravalli forward John-Jason Peterka may attempt to get out of Buffalo.
The Buffalo Sabres and JJ Peterka may be on the outs according to NHL Insider Frank Seravalli.
While Peterka has not made a formal trade quest, he feels that Peterka isn't happy with the current situation and may find a way to get out of dodge and hopefully, Buffalo.
A situation that GM Chris Drury of the New York Rangers should take advantage of.
There have been a few malcontents in Buffalo that are unhappy with their current situation that would like a change of scenery. And I think Peterka falls into that category whether he's made a formal trade request or not...
He's got leverage at some point, he's a pending RFA. He needs to sign a new contract. So, they can make him a qualifying offer, they can offer him a long-term contract, but my question is, 'Will he sign it?' And if not, and he signs an Offer Sheet, then what? What are the Sabres gonna do then?...
He may find his way out whether the Sabres want him to or not.
GM Chris Drury was already in on the 1st-attempt to secure JJ Peterka through a trade as they offered a legitimate NHL player and a first-round pick attached at the deadline.
However, it seems GM Kevyn Adams isn't trying to move on from his top players just yet and would rather see the season through.
The top-six forward will have RFA status and the team will have control of his rights in July.
However, if he refuses to sign his qualifying offer from the Sabres, he could explore other options available, and Drury could find some gumption and send Peterka an offer-sheet.
Could the New York Rangers find a way to sign a forward like JJ Peterka who has a bright future in the NHL?
Since he was already trying to make moves for the forward at the deadline, we have to think he's watching the situation in Buffalo like a hawk.
While GM Kevyn Adams and the Pegula-run Sabres continue to fail at building a winning NHL team.
