The New York Rangers are likely to begin a retool in the offseason if they fail to secure a spot in the NHL playoffs. The rumor mill is swirling about trades that could occur and players who could wear the uniform next season, and one of those is Kraken forward Jared McCann.

Jared McCann's story in the NHL is one of folly, as he was a 2014 draft pick, 24th overall by the Vancouver Canucks.
GM Jim Benning wouldn't take long to trade the rookie after his first season in the NHL to the Florida Panthers with a second and fourth-round pick for defenseman Erik Gudbransson.

McCann's Journey In the NHL

McCann would find himself as a journeyman in the NHL and wouldn't find his game until he arrived in the Seattle Kraken organization after the Toronto Maple Leafs left him exposed.
Now, with more than a few seasons with the Kraken under his belt the skilled forward could find a new home in New York.
He's got a great shot and has scored 60+ points in the last two seasons of his career with the Kraken.
McCann could be the next to go, as the Seattle Kraken have moved some of their top forwards already.
During the trade deadline, they sent center Yanni Gourde, and forward Oliver Bjorkstrand to the Tampa Bay Lightning in a demonstration that not even their top talent is safe from a shake-up of the team.
With the New York Rangers looking to add during the postseason, could McCann be the next winger who could change the team's fortunes?
He's thrived in an environment that by all means hasn't been friendly to players who want to win, as the Kraken is a team still struggling to find their identity.
Even after making the playoffs in recent seasons, and since they're not getting it done GM Ron Francis isn't shy about making moves.
McCann is on a $5 million AAV team-friendly deal until the 2027 season, and if GM Chris Drury wants goal-scoring talent he might have to dip into the Rangers cache to pay the Kraken the right price for the best player the Kraken has now.
