Provorov style would be helpful for the Rangers
«The Rangers are considering Ivan Provorov as a candidate,» an RG source said. «He's one of their options for strengthening the defensive line.»
This defenseman is known for taking the hard minutes as he averages over 23 minutes a game and would give a physical edge to the Rangers blue line if the team were to sign him.
«Provorov is eligible to sign a seven-year deal on the open market or an eight-year deal with Columbus,» RG writes. «But the Blue Jackets have reportedly pushed for a shorter-term contract.»
Rangers would welcome Provorov as defense will get a make over
Rangers general manager Chris Drury has made it clear that he wants to change the composition of his team so that they become more competitive, younger and faster and play with the physical edge and aggressiveness in the offensive zone.
This sentiment is echoed by new head coach Mike Sullivan who had been behind the Pittsburgh bench from the past 10 years.
If the Rangers sign Provorov, the team will need to move one of their defensemen which is likely to
K'Andre Miller as he is said to become a restricted free agent with arbitration rights and might be too expensive for the Rangers willing to pay.
Change is in the wind around the Rangers and bringing Provorov into the organization would give everything a different look and more competitiveness as the team looks to get back to playoff contention.
