Rangers looking to make major changes to team defense
Soucy holds one more year of his contract which holds a cap hit of $3.25 million. He also possesses a 12 team no trade list which could cause some complications for general manager Chris Drury if he wishes to move from him.
The 30-year-old defenseman who stands at 6 foot 5 and 212 lbs was given the marker of defensive defenseman by eliteprospects.com.
Not known for his point totals, his physical play and rough style is what the Rangers were looking for when they acquired him at the deadline.
He played for the Rangers for 16 games and had scored one goal with two assists for three points and had four penalty minutes.
Many aspects of Drury's strategy this summer is to open up as much cap space as possible and moving a player like Soucy will have several teams interested in his style.
Rangers continue to assess their roster and prepare for moves
Both Rangers owner James Dolan and Drury have made it clear that the team will not look the same when they return for training camp September and it's likely that Drury will continue to make major changes through trade or unrestricted free agency to help bolster the team's offense and make them more aggressive.
This style of play will be linked to new head coach Mike Sullivan who was a former assistant coach with the Rangers back in 2009 under Dave Quinn. Quinn has since been named an assistant coach for Sullivan and have essentially flipped roles.
More trades are likely in the next few weeks with the NHL Entry Draft set to begin on June 27th an unrestricted free agency set to begin on July 1st.
