The New York Rangers' 2025-26 season success will depend on a new "kid line" should Mike Sullivan construct one. A third line with youth could be a deciding factor in the outcomes of games, as Gabe Perreault and Brennan Othmann find themselves as key pieces in the lineup.

Brennan Othmann is a former 1st-round pick who could very well find himself in the New York Rangers lineup in 2025-26.

Mike Sullivan's Kid Line Of The Future

For Mike Sullivan and the Rangers, they're hopeful he can pick up the slack with the talent departing in the postseason. As the team could find themselves in another situation where they depend on a "kid-line" for production, similar to the Filip Chytil, Kaapo Kakko, and Will Cuylle line.
Both have played a total of 30 NHL games combined, and are still young at ages 22, and 20.
Neither has scored an NHL goal, and only Othmann has recorded a point; he had two assists in his 22 games on Broadway last season.

It'll be a tall order for both Othmann and Perreault, who have failed to score a goal in the NHL at this point in their budding careers.
With less than $800K in cap space available for the Rangers to work with after signing Matt Rempe, Adam Edstrom, Will Cuylle, Jusso Parssinen, and a trade for Vladislav Gavrikov, they won't be able to make big moves. Instead, rely on the bottom-six for meaningful production.
This is where Othmann and Perreault step in.
Sullivan could end up constructing a similar kid line like we've seen in 2021-22, with Gallant placing Alexis Lafreniere, Filip Chytil, and Kaapo Kakko on the same line.
Sullivan could unlock the potential of all three with Juuso Parssinen centering both forwards on a third line.
The Rangers will depend on Othmann to find himself in the regular season lineup. Fans have been waiting for his arrival in the NHL since his 2021-22 season, posting elite numbers with the Flint Firebirds.
In order to finish the line, Perreault, who has already seen a limited amount of time in the NHL, playing 5 games, will have to make the team out of training camp.
While it's incomprehensible that he'd join the 1st-line this early in his career, he could take a similar path as Alexis Lafreniere, who would work his way into the first line after serving time on the third before his game matured.
A new kid line in New York could be what the team needs to forge a path to the playoffs next year.
